Tips for Protecting Children Online - Part 1

We at Spysure recognise that our monitoring software is just one piece in the puzzle of protecting children online.  In the same way that many foods and dietary supplements are useful for weight loss as part of a balanced diet, Spysure is suitable for protecting children as part of a balanced parental strategy. 

So, over the next two days, we would like to offer some further advice on how to keep your children safe online.  Using a combination of responsible parenting and computer-savvy, you can greatly reduce the risk of your children being exposed to unsuitable material on the internet.

Offline Tips

1. Where possible, keep computers in a central place.
   This will make it easier to keep an eye on your children’s activities.
   
2. Teach your children to communicate responsibly.
   Teach your children the following as a good rule of thumb: if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't text it, email it, instant message it, or post it as a comment on someone's page.
   
3. Beware of strangers.
   Teach your children not to arrange in-person meetings with people they meet online, and not to share personal information with online strangers because people may not be who they claim to be.
   
4. Protect passwords.
   Remind your children not to give out their passwords for online services.
   
5. Talk!
   As soon as your children start using the technology, start talking about safety.
