Today Microsoft have launched a special version of their Internet Explorer 8 browser software, in conjunction with the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). The “Click Clever, Click Safe” version contains several tools to enable the user to quickly obtain advice from and report their concerns to CEOP.
The most obvious element is an additional button on the toolbar labelled “Click CEOP”. The user can click on this button at any point to access the control panel shown above, where they can obtain advice on Cyberbullying, Viruses, Harmful Content, Hacking, Mobile Problems and Sexual Behaviour. The information is presented for children, teens, parents and teachers alike.
The "Click Clever, Click Safe” browser also adds an “Internet Safety” search to Internet Explorer’s search bar that allows the user to search for information on Internet Safety information from the “thinkuknow” website. Several Internet Security related websites are also added to the browser’s Favourites list.
For users with Internet Explorer 8, these features can be added individually. Users with an earlier version of Internet Explorer can download the software with the add-ons already installed.
Running the latest version of Internet Explorer is always a good idea too – it will help to protect your computer from viruses that exploit flaws in older versions.
