Children Search The Internet for "YouTube, Facebook and Sex"

In recent research published by software company Norton, and discussed on the consumer website Which?, it is revealed that young people are actively searching for "sex" and "porn" online.

Norton examined the top 100 searches made by 4,000 young people aged 18 years or under and found the explicit terms were being searched for, alongside much more benign searches for large websites such as YouTube, Facebook and eBay and for celebrities like Cheryl Cole, Lady GaGa and Miley Cyrus.

The research showed differences between the sexes as searches made by boys centred on social networking, gaming and "adult terms", whilst searches made by girls were related to music, movies, celebrities and television shows.

Searches for the terms "porn" and "sex" were the 4th and 5th most searched terms, respectively, in Norton's results.

The conclusions were drawn from nearly 15 million searches conducted by Norton's customers in 2009.

Do you know what your children are searching for online?
